My Story

I started out many years ago as a volunteer peer group counselor at The Salvation Army in Philadelphia. This led to graduate school in Art Therapy at Hahnemann University (now Drexel) and then on to working for over 20 years in the addiction treatment field. Later Southern California Art Therapy Association sponsored me to teach their professional members how to use art therapy in the treatment of Substance Use Disorders at The Betty Ford Center in Southern CA.  IC&RC granted me the competency level of Subject Matter Expert and I now help write their international advanced exams.  In the last two years I have worked with Native American tribes in health centers on their reservations. I am a friend of Bill W.

How I got here ...

Since I began working in the Substance Use Disorder treatment field I have lived in many places and worked in a variety of settings. During that time I have consistently upgraded my skills through experience, education and training.

Today I hold current state addiction treatment licenses in New Jersey, California, and New Mexico. I hold a master’s degree in Art Therapy and am a licensed art therapist in New Jersey. In addition I've held an International Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counseling Certification from IC&RC since 2013. I've been a counselor with NJ State Recovery Court and Driving Under the Influence programs.

Each place I have worked or studied in has taught me much.  Helping people with substance use disorder issues is often complicated and usually satisfying. Whether it's working in inpatient or outpatient treatment settings, methadone and MAT treatment, or in a CA maximum security mental health prison, I've found there is always much for me to learn. I've been privileged to guide many people towards their personal recovery and watch them continue lives of amazing happiness.
